Courses Description:

Basic:

Is designed to present a basic review of the Spanish/ Portuguese Language, for students with little or no previous Spanish/Portuguese. In this level, you will work with common vocabulary used in a health profession such as symptoms, illnesses, medications, medical treatment, parts of the hospital, etc.  The course emphasizes the development of communication skills: the ability to comprehend non-English speaking patients and their families. We will also explore cultural issues.

The student will develop ability and confidence in basic Spanish/Portuguese communication

 Advanced:

Class conducted in Spanish. The course focuses on oral communication for health care professionals. The student will learn about the most commonly encountered situations in the medical field These include, the emergency room, hospital admissions, children’s hospital, asking and answering questions about symptoms, and handling typical basic documentation procedures, consent forms, etc., with interactive activities designed to practice and consolidate language skills. The student will be able to speak Spanish with the patients in a medical facility and in everyday situations.

 Significant cultural aspects are also included
